Hi Amy;
On Thursday August 6th. Stoney, Margaret, his brother Dick and I went to Scarborough to visit the Childrens Hospital. Dr. Young was kind enough to grant us a tour of the facility. We were given an opportunity to meet some of the people who care for the children inflicted with cancer.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a big sign posted above the reception desk that read THANK YOU STONEY. This really impressed the STONEMAN. I think he sort of felt like a celebrity. We were shown the actual OWIE BOX which the LOBSTER RUN has been supporting for all these years. It was a simple wooden chest, much like you would see in any child's home filled with educational toys and of course some just for fun stuff as well. We were also informed that the money raised is used to buy special gifts for those children that are being discharged or sent home.
We were introduced to a couple of the children while on our tour. I think we were all fighting back our emotions at that time. These children are so beautiful, it just doesn't seem fair to me. The staff there really do treat the child with love and genuine care for their well being, and there was also this dog there that has been trained to check on the kids when their in their beds.
The dog will put it's paws on the bed and lift itself to the delight of the child. It looked like a big stuffed animal, but definitely alive and real.
As I walked along, I couldn't help but think that this tour that the STONEMAN was on, sort of was bringing things full circle for him and for the rest of us for that matter. It most certainly inspired us all to work harder and support this program all the more.
Stoney made the comment and I quote "these kids need us".
On the way home, we were all happy that we took the time to visit this very special place.
Take care
Steve

L-A Harley Teams Up with
United Bikers of
Support
For 6 years now, United Bikers of Maine have held an annual Wish List Bike Ride
to benefit Camp Sunshine. During that time, they have raised over $17,000 for Camp Sunshine along with bringing in thousands of Wish List items to support the Camp Sunshine Program.
This year, L-A Harley Davidson, and United Bikers of Maine teamed up for the annual ride. Fund raising started in April which included the monthly Biker Nights at the Grid Iron, BBQ's at the L-A Harley dealership on Saturdays, and continued through to their culmination event- A Surf & Turf Ride up to Sugarloaf with a stop along the way at Camp Sunshine!
On August 9, approximately 250 bikers on 200 bike, left L-A Harley to make the trip to Camp Sunshine to visit with the families at Camp for that week. What a treat it was to have the bikers at Camp Sunshine. The kids were able to sit on the bikes, rev up the engines and just simply enjoy the site of 200 bikes on teh Camp Sunshine soccer field! Shaw's Supermarkets generously donated for all the bikers before they continued on their trip up to Sugarloaf, where they held a silent auction to keep the funds coming in.
In total, a check was recently presented to Camp Sunshine for $18,610.21 ! A big thank you to L-A Harley Davidson and United Bikers of Maine for the hard work and an amazing ride!
